Sustainability Strategy
Our sustainability strategy is built around three interconnected priorities: Access to Healthcare, Environmental Protection and Ethics and Transparency. Our priorities are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Our Access to Healthcare Initiatives
Healthy Lung
Launched in 2018 to address treatment gaps in asthma management in Malaysia, Healthy Lung has since become part of AstraZeneca’s sustainability framework. The programme includes the Breathe Better programme for effective asthma management and care.
Young Health Programme
Young Health Programme (YHP): AstraZeneca Malaysia Empowers Primary School Students of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pulau Meranti and SK Bandar Baru Bangi to Lead Healthier Lives
The Young Health Programme by AstraZeneca empowers young people worldwide to make informed health choices and lead advocacy efforts. Active in over 40 countries with support from more than 60 non-profit partners, the programme integrates community outreach, research, leadership development, and advocacy, particularly for underserved populations. Since 2010, it has reached over 20 million youths, trained 900,000 individuals, and mobilised 20,000 employees contributing 99,000 volunteer hours.
In Malaysia, the programme began in 2021 through collaboration with Hospital Beyond Boundaries, focusing on mental health among B40 communities. Expansion followed with partners like National Kidney Foundation Malaysia, reaching over 1,000 youths across multiple regions. In December 2025, YHP introduced its first primary school initiative themed “Saya Sihat, Saya Hebat” in partnership with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, engaging students to build healthy habits early.
The programme underscores AstraZeneca’s commitment to health equity by fostering sustainable behavioural change, strengthening community partnerships, and equipping future generations with the knowledge and tools for lifelong well-being and resilience across diverse communities in Malaysia.
Patient Affordability Programme
AstraZeneca is committed to driving equitable access to medicines for patients. Our medicines help address unmet medical needs, improve health and create economic benefits. We have been consistently working towards the goal of ensuring that patients have access to medicine. And there are resources and infrastructure available to purchase our medicines equitably.
Our Patient Affordability Programme sets out to achieve this. Since 2015, many patients have benefited from this programme.
Our Environmental Protection Initiatives
Accelerating EV Adoption
To reduce carbon emission and address climate change, we partnered with Sime Darby Motors to provide corporate rates to employees to encourage their adoption of an electric vehicle (EV).
ePI
In line with our commitment to sustainable healthcare practices, we aim to remove paper product information leaflets by 2030. The new digital ePI or electronic-labelling for products was introduced in Malaysia to improve access to the most updated, regulator-approved information on selected medicines without delay.
